8 mistakes people make before starting job search

8 mistakes people make before starting job search 1. Having "Actively looking for job opportunities" under your LinkedIn name. This isn't helping. Hiring managers want to see the skills and abilities you have, give them a clue so they may read on. 2. Simply using the same resume for all applications. Don't be lazy, focus your resume for every application to increase your chance of success. There is always something you can do even if it is just within the profile. 3. An unprofessional email address. I mention this often, gymjunkie63@exy.com, just doesn't cut it, a more appropriate format is: yourname@gmail.com 4. Applying to positions on one job board Don't be lazy, companies don't just use one portal, don't forget to go to company career pages also. 5. Your LinkedIn profile picture. There are 2, head and shoulders shot, keep it professional and work-related and background shot, keep it project or job focused. 6. Applying for every job you see. Develop a criteria, A, B, C list, don't apply willy nilly 7. Failure to choose a career path. Start with a plan, discuss it with a partner or family member (or me). When you start job search, know where you want to end up. 8. Ignoring all of the above
